1) Plyo
There is a springy feeling old skaters recall with nostalgia. 2 min done right can bring their feeling back. By the time you set foot on the board, you already warmed up.
We had a skater pop their biggest ollie ever in 3 tries after this warmup.
Plyometric training is explosive so use care. Coaches are the only way to learn well. Without posture and foot work athletes can do harm, or simply see no improvement.
2) Sprint/Push Fast
Top pros push fast often, we often forget to. If you explore spots around town you may already sprint each week.
Benefits of Sprinting:
Top athletes sprint for muscle, bone, heart and metabolism. In at least a few ways, 10 min sprinting is better than 2 hours at a spot. Sprinting around town is exhilarating and question is: “Why don’t we more?” It’s because we might get lost on the ride. Skaters find amazing spots when they go for strolls in random towns. At least we will find a few features to warm up on.
Push fast 1-2x each week
We recommend 10-20 min of speed in the morning. Sprinting boosts hormones that can keep you up at night, this lasts 12-16 hours. A morning sprint charges your whole day.
Fun Fact: Slowing down from sprinting wears down joints, especially with poor technique. Skater’s don’t have this problem. Our joints don’t have to slow us down from top speed like a runners. Skating we just stand to slow down.
We can sprint till we’re 60. If our position and hip mechanics are on point, speed and power fly out the feet.
What’s your Foundation?
The only true foundation is spine position.
New breeds of athletes have elite foundations, which help them every step of every day.
