Arch of the Foot

Human feet are modified ape hands, 26 bones and 33 joints. How these hold our weight is a wonder. Build a healthy relationship to reap huge benefits.

Feeling More

The foot grounds us to the earth. Practice feeling the ground to feel the board better. Work on feeling more barefoot, then try with shoes.

We usually notice little about foot feel, can’t tell textures of the road we walk. Shoes are mostly to blame, we feel much less with them. Most shoes also throw off leg alignment.

There are natural shaped skateboarding shoes, but we say skate the shoes you like. For every day shoes, pick up cheap natural designs. Shoes like these

help our whole leg align.

Here is how to align the entire foot and leg:

Step 1: Squeeze glutes and screw feet into ground.

Athletes with Flat Feet can still feel the arch lift some, and more over time. We want to feel rotation through the whole leg. Right leg rotates clockwise, left counterclockwise. Feet stay pointed straight.

Pro Tools Improve Position

Release tension here:

Contract Relax Method melts tension and feeds neurological slack through the foot. It’s used by many pro athletes.

Once you feel improvement in position, grab 2 weights and walk around, or stand on one foot. Do any lift you choose, and concentrate on good position. Weight solidifies learning(not in the head but in the body), heightens awareness, and activates muscles we will use for skating. It builds the new connective tissue we need to own this new position.
